Big Thunder Gold Mine is a large attraction. It is the most complete mining experience in the Black Hills. The tour is in an original gold mine, takes approximately 1 hour and all participants experience a hands on presentation of the Gold Rush in the Black Hills from 1876 to 1914. 2 forms of gold panning are offered, claim tours offer participants to gold pan in a stream using classifiers, sluices and goldpans in a 4 hour experience on a Black Hills Federal Mining Claim.
